Canada Institute
for Generational Futures

Building Institutions. Building Futures.

CIGF is a Canadian not-for-profit and independent convening and collaborative institute focused on education, youth and future pathways, and institutional capacity. Grounded in Canada with a global outlook, we bring together institutions, researchers, communities and other partners to explore and develop practical, evidence-informed responses to changing educational, economic, technological and societal conditions.

Why Generational Futures Matter

Education is more than an individual opportunity. It is a generational investment that shapes capability, participation, resilience and the possibilities available to communities and societies over time.

CIGF is particularly interested in how changing conditions are reshaping the pathways available to emerging generations—and how institutions can become more connected, responsive and future-ready.

What We Are Building

Education & Learning Systems
Strengthening inclusive, responsive and future-oriented learning systems, pathways and institutional collaboration.

Youth Skills & Pathways
Connecting education, skills, work, leadership and participation so that young people can navigate more coherent pathways into adult life.

Inclusive Institutional Development
Strengthening the capabilities, partnerships, governance and learning needed for institutions to create lasting educational and societal value.

Featured Initiative

Generational Futures Alberta 2027
Young Adults, Changing Pathways and Institutional Adaptation

The initiative will explore four connected dimensions: LEARN, WORK, LIVE and BELONG. Proposed activities include a focused evidence scan, youth perspectives, expert input and cross-sector dialogue, leading to a CIGF Generational Futures Alberta Brief 2027 identifying emerging changes, institutional mismatches and priorities for action.

Status: Under development for 2027.

CIGF is developing an Alberta-based initiative examining how changes in education, work, technology and the conditions of early adulthood are reshaping young adults’ pathways—and where institutions may need to adapt.

Working Through Partnership

CIGF works through collaboration rather than duplication. Our role is to help create the relationships, structures and shared purpose through which meaningful collaboration can grow.

Depending on the initiative, CIGF may convene, connect, co-design, facilitate knowledge exchange, provide advisory support, coordinate pilot development, strengthen institutional capacity, or participate in partnership-based implementation.

Starting With Purpose

CIGF is in its foundational phase. We are prioritizing sound governance, trusted relationships and well-designed initiatives before scale. Our approach is to listen, learn, develop carefully, test where appropriate, and build from evidence and experience.
