Programs & Institutional Initiatives

CIGF develops, convenes and supports collaborative initiatives across education, youth and skills development, and inclusive institutional systems—connecting learning, institutional capacity, partnership development and long-term generational resilience.

Grounded in Canada with a global outlook, CIGF seeks to develop practical, evidence-informed initiatives that respond to emerging educational and societal needs while strengthening the institutions and relationships needed for sustainable impact.

How We Approach Programs

CIGF develops initiatives progressively, with an emphasis on collaboration, institutional alignment, evidence-informed learning and responsible growth. Depending on the initiative, our role may include convening, partnership development, research and knowledge exchange, co-design, advisory support, coordination, capacity building, pilot development and partnership-based implementation.

Our aim is not to duplicate the work of existing institutions, but to connect complementary strengths, address gaps and help develop collaborative approaches that create lasting educational and institutional value.

Our Program Areas

Education & Learning Systems

CIGF supports initiatives that strengthen inclusive, responsive and future-oriented education across secondary, post-secondary and lifelong-learning environments.

  • Learning and educational pathways

  • Institutional and cross-sector educational collaboration

  • International and cross-cultural learning

  • Future-oriented teaching, learning and educational innovation

  • Educator, institutional and knowledge-exchange capacity

Through these initiatives, CIGF seeks to connect institutions and communities around approaches that improve learning opportunities and strengthen education systems over time.

Youth Skills & Pathways

CIGF develops and supports initiatives that help young people navigate transitions across education, skills development, employment, leadership and participation in society.

  • Education-to-work and other transition pathways

  • Career exploration, mentorship and leadership development

  • Experiential and work-integrated learning

  • Digital, entrepreneurial and future-ready capabilities

  • Opportunities for young people facing barriers to participation or successful transitions

CIGF is particularly interested in collaborative approaches that connect educational institutions, communities, employers and other partners around more coherent pathways for young people.

Inclusive Institutional Development

Strong institutions are essential to sustainable educational and societal progress. CIGF works with partners to strengthen the institutional foundations, capabilities, relationships and practices needed for long-term impact.

  • Institutional capacity and organizational learning

  • Strategic partnership development and international collaboration

  • Governance, leadership and professional capacity

  • Inclusive, accountable and ethical institutional practice

  • Sustainability, resilience and stakeholder engagement

Depending on the context, CIGF may contribute through institutional dialogue, advisory support, partnership facilitation, capacity-building initiatives, collaborative planning and jointly developed institutional projects.

Featured Initiative

Generational Futures Alberta 2027

Young Adults, Changing Pathways and Institutional Adaptation

Young adults are navigating transitions shaped by changing education and training systems, evolving labour markets, technological change, affordability pressures, social expectations and new forms of participation. CIGF is developing Generational Futures Alberta 2027 to examine how these changes are affecting pathways into adulthood and where institutions may need to adapt.

The initiative is organized around four connected dimensions:

  • LEARN — education and future capabilities

  • WORK — skills, careers and economic opportunity

  • LIVE — conditions affecting the transition to secure and independent adulthood

  • BELONG — identity, voice, citizenship, community and institutional participation

The proposed first phase will combine a focused evidence scan, a CIGF Youth Futures Panel, selected expert input and a cross-sector roundtable. The principal knowledge product will be the CIGF Generational Futures Alberta Brief 2027, identifying key changes, institutional mismatches, promising responses and priorities for institutional action and further investigation.

Generational Futures Alberta 2027 is currently under development. CIGF will build the initiative progressively with appropriate academic, institutional, youth and cross-sector collaborators.

Emerging Initiative

Global Skills & Future Pathways

In development

CIGF is developing a practical initiative focused on capabilities young people increasingly need to learn, work and collaborate across changing local and global environments. The emerging model will connect global and intercultural competence with digital and AI literacy, communication, problem solving, teamwork and career navigation.

The initiative is intended to be developed with post-secondary and other institutional partners and may begin through a modest hybrid pilot before any larger mobility or international component is considered.

This initiative remains in development. Its scope, participants, delivery model and partnerships will be refined before implementation.

From Ideas to Collaborative Initiatives

Listen & Identify — Understand needs, institutional priorities, existing strengths and opportunities for collaboration.

Connect & Convene — Bring together relevant institutions, expertise, communities and partners.

Co-Design — Develop an initiative with clearly defined objectives, roles, responsibilities, safeguards and expected outcomes.

Pilot & Learn — Test appropriate approaches, gather evidence and learn from participants and partners.

Implement & Strengthen — Where appropriate, support or participate in implementation while strengthening institutional capacity and partnership structures.

Adapt & Sustain — Use evidence and experience to determine whether an initiative should be refined, expanded, replicated or sustained through partner institutions.

Explore Collaboration

CIGF develops initiatives progressively, in accordance with its governance, operational capacity, resources and partnership arrangements. Our priority is responsible development, meaningful collaboration and lasting value.

Have an idea or see an area of alignment? We welcome a conversation about potential collaboration.
